The Magic of Music – A Silver Jubilee Celebratory Fundraiser

The San Diego Chamber Orchestra will celebrate its 25th season with what promises to be a fantastic Silver Jubilee fundraising event, The Magic of Music , on Saturday, March 28, 2009, at the Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa , with Mistress of Ceremonies and TV personality Kimberly King and featuring The Heroes band and Auctioneer Bill Menish .

Under the leadership of Jung-Ho Pak, artistic director and conductor , the Orchestra has created a sensation in the San Diego area with its vision of making classical music relevant in today's world through programming and extraordinary experiences, increasing ticket sales by 22% last season. The Orchestra has also dedicated itself to providing music education in the San Diego city schools and many county schools through multiple programs, including the ground-breaking Frances Hunter Music Memory Program, kicked off in the fall of 2008.

Gay Hugo-Martinez, president of the Orchestra's board of directors , says, “It is so exhilarating to be celebrating twenty-five years of bringing beautiful music to the San Diego area; however, that's not all we're celebrating – this is one of the most exciting times in our history. Our ticket sales are up, our guests are excited, our staff is terrific and our talented musicians are performing better than ever and feeling that they are a part of an extraordinary team that truly will make a difference in the San Diego community. We have to keep that momentum going, and that's why this fundraiser is so very important for us.”

Maestro Pak echoes her sentiments, stating, “I am so blessed to be a part of a team of musicians, staff and board that is working as a real team to provide an experience that brings joy and passion into the lives of our guests – and a dedication that is bringing extensive music education programs to our San Diego area schools. There is so much to celebrate this year.”

Kathleen and the late Steve Davis, immediate past chairs, will be honored, along with all past presidents of the Orchestra's board of directors and the two conductors of the Orchestra during its 25 years: Jung-Ho Pak, current artistic director and conductor (2006- ) and Donald Barra, founding conductor (1984-2005).

Elaine Darwin and Teresa O'Connor, the event co-chairs say, “We are excited to be co-chairs of this very special 25th anniversary fundraiser. We have been able to connect with visionary community leaders who established the orchestra twenty-five years ago, including past board presidents, and we appreciate the many friends and supporters of the Orchestra today. We are pleased about the support we've already received from local and national businesses, and we're looking forward to even more sponsorships and offers of support as we prepare for this fun-filled event dedicated to such a wonderful and worthwhile cause that seems even more important during these trying days – feeding the soul with music from our wonderful Orchestra.”

The Orchestra performs in multiple venues: Downtown at St. Paul 's Cathedral, La Jolla at the Sherwood Auditorium, Rancho Santa Fe at the Del Mar Country Club and the California Center for the Arts in Escondido .

“What a thrill for me to see the implementation of Music Memory in our schools and to observe the tremendous success of the San Diego Chamber Orchestra over the last 20 years,” says Gayle Gillies Mize, founding president of the Orchestra.

The Magic of Music activities will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a cocktail reception and silent auction, followed by dinner and dancing to the music of The Heroes and a live auction.

Current sponsors of the event include K. Ann Brizolis and Associates, Sanford Winery and Vineyards, California Bank & Trust, ProFlowers, Pasqua Wealth Management and Mon Lis Hand-Crafted Wines.
