San Diego Chamber Orchestra Announces 2007-2008 Season
with Jung-Ho Pak, Artistic Director and Conductor
San Diego, CA (April 3, 2007) – For his second year as
Artistic Director and Conductor, Jung-Ho Pak who has been hailed for his unique
and inspiring programming, has crafted an exciting six season programs to be
performed throughout San Diego County. Maestro Pak will continue to personally
conduct each of the Classics Series concerts.
With the San Diego Chamber
Orchestra currently experiencing
a dramatic increase in attendance, Executive Director Winnie Briney anticipates
more sell out concerts in the organization’s future.
“Our last season has seen great achievements. Concerts in our downtown
venue, St. Paul’s Cathedral, have begun selling out. We have a
re-established the Orchestra and classical music as a prominent option with
young professionals in San Diego through our audience building collaborations
with groups such as the Young New Lawyers Division of the County Bar Association,
Ivy Hour and other young professional orginizations as well as enjoying ongoing
support from Rotary. Ticket sales have increased; our patrons have given
us positive and powerful feedback that our new vision for classical music has
struck a chord with them.”
The Orchestra continues to emphasize their musicians as the Heart of the Orchestra
and foster the connection between their musicians and the audience. Last
season Orchestra musicians along with Maestro Pak greeted audience members
at the door before the concerts. This tradition will continue throughout the
2007-2008 season as many audience member have expressed delight at getting
to make a personal connection with the musicians. Marketing Director
Kristin Behrmann comments, “Our musicians perform with great
passion and talent. This past season we highlighted their unique and
increadible personalities with an increased presence in both the program and
on the website. This year Maestro Pak will include one of our musicians, Scott
Paulson, as a Guest Artist on our March Classics Series concert.”
The
2006-2007 six-concert Classical Series offers experiences unique to each of
three venues. St. Paul’s Cathedral offers vibrant
acoustics in an inspiring atmosphere and is close to Balboa Park and a wide
variety of unique restaurants and night-life on Friday nights. La Jolla’s
Sherwood Auditorium on Monday nights is a traditional concert setting accented
by modern art with dining just steps away at La Jolla restaurants. Tuesday
nights, Rancho Santa Fe’s Del Mar Country Club is home
to elegant, black-tie optional concerts with cabaret seating and a pre-concert
reception and an optional post concert dinner.
New Audiences
The Orchestra’s box office is ahead of last season’s in current
sales and is experiencing its first major increase since 2001. The following
concerts in 2006-07 have sold out at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Downtown:
February Love Is In the Air; andMarch French Connections. The
2006-2007 Season Finale concert is currently sold at over 90% in Rancho Santa
Fe, with more sales expected at all venues before the April 9th, 10th, and
13th concerts.

collegues presented at the October 06 concert, Maestro Pak includes another
premier composition for the March 07-08 season concert. The Concerto
for Theremin being composed by Linda Kernohan is written expressly for Orchestra
oboist and Theremin player Scott Paulson.

the great classics. It premiered in September, 2006 with monthly topics
relating to the repertoire selected for each month of San Diego Chamber Orchestra
concert season.

to orchestral events throughout San Diego. It also seeks to appeal to young
audiences and the broader popular culture within our region.

you to share in his passion; “My
passion is to make great classical music meaningful for this generation and
the next. I'm so excited about this opportunity. This program
gives me the chance to share my insights with thousands of people from my experience
of conducting for over two decades with some of the best orchestras in the
world. XLNC1 is the perfect partner in this new kind of program, because
we both share the dream of having the entire San Diego County be privy to what
we have known all along ...classical music is beautiful music for every lifestyle
and every background!"
