Jessica Betancourt
Biography
Jesi is a proud San Diego native. In 1993 she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Literature from University of California , San Diego . Since 1998 she has worked as a paralegal for the University of San Diego Legal Clinics , which provides free legal services to low income San Diegans. For the last 17 years she works on the weekends with the American Red Cross as a military caseworker, helping active duty service personnel and their families.
Jesi currently serves as an organizer and hostess for the San Diego young professionals group, IvyHour. She works closely with local arts groups and venues to create unique and exciting events for art loving professionals.
At an early age she was exposed to classical music by her parents. She regularly attends concerts and operas. Her passion for classical music has lead her to be a supernumerial (“supers”) with the San Diego Opera. Supers are extras (think spear carriers, maids, townspeople) on stage during an opera production. Since 2000 Jesi has been in several productions including Aida, Rigoletto, Carmen and La Boheme. In 2009 she accepted the position of Super Captain with the San Diego Opera, recruiting and supervising supers.
She is grateful for the opportunity to serve on the board of Orchestra Nova. Starting her board term in 2009, she has enjoyed working with the other board members, artists and patrons alike. She looks forward to making Jung-Ho Pak's vision of beautiful and unique musical experience a reality for all San Diegans.
