Ruben Valenzuela’s work has been described as "state of the art, vital, and refined" because of his ability to deliver performances that immediately speak to audiences through their unrelenting energy, spirit and inspired musicianship. In addition to his conducting and music direction, he has distinguished himself as an organist, harpsichordist, continuo player and scholar.
Ruben Valenzuela is the founder and music director of the Bach Collegium San Diego which has been influential in enriching the San Diego music community with historically informed performances of the Renaissance, Baroque and, in particular, the vocal works of Bach.
Under his artistic direction, he recently gave the first San Diego period instrument performances of Handel's Messiah and Bach's B minor Mass to high acclaim, in addition to leading the Bach Collegium San Diego on their first international tour to Mexico City. His early music credits include collaborations with the Musica Angelica Baroque Orchestra, Los Angeles Baroque Orchestra, in addition to working with many of this country's leading early music specialists.
He is also the Director of Music and Organist of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Del Mar, and is pursuing a Ph.D. in Musicology and Historical Performance Practices at Claremont Graduate University. |
