Susan Barrett
Oboe, Principal
When Susan (a native of East Hartford, CT) was in fifth grade, her older sister (who just happened to be the music instructor at Susan's school) limited her choice of instrument to learn to only three. The French horn was too heavy to carry, and the viola was not a band instrument. So Susan chose the oboe even though she didn't know what it was. She fell in love with the oboe immediately and eternally. Aside from Susan's musical activities, she practices a holistic self-healing method called Reiki Tummo under the guidance of Grand Master Irmansyah Effendi of Indonesia. She is the San Diego Coordinator of this Padmacahaya Institute for Inner Study and volunteers channeling healing energy at different hospitals.
